Cabinet Goals and Objectives

1.   CLOSE THE SOCIOECONOMIC ACHIEVEMENT GAP

      Objective 1: Develop strong charter schools and intra-district transfers to expand choices for parents to address the specialized needs of their children.

      Objective 2: Enhance educational opportunities through expanded school day, exposure and content.

      Objective 3: Ensure that all Kentucky children can read on grade level by the end of the third grade.

2.   STUDENTS SHOULD EARN COLLEGE\CAREER CREDIT PRIOR TO HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION

      Objective 1: Redesign state scholarship programs to expand funding for dual-credit opportunities for every high school student. Learn More​

      Objective 2: Facilitate innovative partnerships with the Work Ready Skills Initiative, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), Area Technology Centers, and            local schools to expand dual-credit offerings.

      Objective 3: Revise high school graduation requirements to include postsecondary success either on an academic or technical path by 2022.

3.   RAISE KENTUCKY’S WORKFORCE PARTICIPATION RATE TO THE TOP HALF IN THE COUNTRY

      Objective 1: Redesign Kentucky’s unemployment insurance system to meet and exceed best national practices and to encourage re-employment.

      Objective 2: Refocus employment centers to also provide Medicaid, TANF, and SNAP participants with re-employment and job skills training.

      Objective 3: Develop statewide talent pipeline strategies to coordinate career and technical education with employer needs.​​​​
